Hand Drawn Wedding Invitations | From Biro Doodle to Print
Every piece we make starts as a hand drawn illustration before it's brought to print. We're not working from a template, and we're not an AI-generated design pulled together overnight.
Our first designs, Crystal Ball and Skeleton Lovers, go back to 2019 and 2020, well before any of that was even a conversation in this industry. This is how our illustrated wedding invitations come about, and how we make them yours.
It Usually Starts With a Doodle
Candle & Key started, like so many of our designs, with a biro doodle from Joshua. Open the gatefold and a cabinet of curiosities style gallery wall unfolds, every frame drawn by us.
Lock & Key was a doodle as well. Joshua had been floating the idea of a heart-shaped padlock for a while, and a small sketch slowly became something much bigger. The crossed keys behind the lock were always the vision, and then we found the keys had a life of their own.
Crystal Ball and Skeleton Lovers | Where It Began
Crystal Ball is where everything began. The idea was a tarot card that was an invitation. Not just a tarot-inspired design, an actual card, in shape and in form, with the weight and presence of something you'd pull from a real deck. We think we absolutely smashed it, and we say that as the people who drew every line of it.
Our skeletons go back just as far. 'Til Death Do Us Part has been around since 2019 in various versions, from our original skeletons to the updated Skeleton Lovers illustration that came later. It was our first design to earn serious attention, and the one that showed us there were thousands of couples out there who felt exactly the same way we did.
Your Portrait, Drawn by Hand
This is a hand drawn wedding invitation in the most literal sense. For our Candle & Key silhouette gatefold, you send us a side profile photo of each of you and we start drawing. Your profiles, your hairlines, your faces facing each other across the fold.
No two covers we've ever made are the same. Every cover is different, and that's the point. See the custom silhouette gatefold.
Making an Illustration Yours
Colourway, a photo of the two of you, your own wording, all of that is standard. Every design can be printed in any colour or gradient.
We also get the occasional request to add a bit of extra illustrated detail, a pet being the most common. As self-confessed crazy cat people, that's a request we're always happy to say yes to where we can.
You'll get a digital proof within 7 days, and we'll go back and forth as many times as you need. Be picky. Please. That is what the proof stage is for.
“Our invitations are beyond perfect! And the communication was phenomenal 10/10 we got the mock ups so quickly and were so impressed by them. I honestly cried opening the box they’re so much better than we could have ever imagined.”

A Tarot Deck in the Making
The drawing doesn't stop at invitations. Our tarot seating charts bring together our illustrated tarot designs, each one drawn by hand. The Lovers for the top table. The Sun for your most joyful guests. The Devil for whoever is doing shots before the ceremony.
The eventual dream is a full illustrated tarot deck, we're on the way there!
Why It Matters to Us
It means a lot when a couple tells us they recognise our work online before they've even spoken to us. Our hearts are genuinely in this, and we're talking from real love for the genre, not a script.
If you'd like to see the illustration and print in person first, our sample packs are the easiest way to hold a few of our real designs in your hands.
