There's a moment in planning a goth wedding where everything clicks.

We got married in October 2022, and from the very beginning we knew we wanted something that felt genuinely us. Dark, atmospheric, a little theatrical. Not a traditional wedding with gothic touches bolted on afterwards, but something gothic at the root of it.
Our Own Wedding, and What It Taught Us About Stationery
For our save the dates we used our own Celestial Sun & Moon design, gold foil on black, which set the tone immediately.
For the day itself we designed a bespoke heart gatefold in two versions. Forest green for day guests, midnight blue for evening guests, both carrying the colour story forward from the invitations. It's one of the things we're proudest of, and it's where we learned first-hand how much continuity across a full suite matters at a gothic wedding. Nothing felt disconnected. A guest could pick up any piece of stationery from the day and know exactly which wedding it belonged to.
What Actually Makes a Wedding Gothic?
The aesthetic varies more than people expect.
Some gothic weddings are Victorian mourning inspired. Jet jewellery, deep burgundy, memento mori details. Some are celestial and occult, tarot cards and moon phases woven through every detail on the table. Others are pure dark romance, black lace and candlelight and a ceremony that feels like it belongs somewhere between a fairytale and a fever dream.
What they share is intentionality. Nothing is accidental. Every choice means something, right down to the stationery.
This matters more at a gothic wedding than almost any other style, because the visual language is so specific. A generic off-the-shelf invitation breaks the spell immediately. Guests should open the envelope and already understand the kind of day they're being invited into.

Choosing Your Foil
Foil is available on selected designs across the catalogue, in gold, silver, copper, rose gold, or iridescent.
Gold reads opulent and a little vampiric. Iridescent reads otherworldly. Silver reads cold and elegant. Copper and rose gold sit somewhere warmer, softer. It's worth thinking about which direction your wider wedding aesthetic is heading before you choose, since the foil does a lot of the emotional work on a dark background.
Don't Forget the Full Suite
Beyond the invitations, the full suite matters at a gothic wedding.
Save the dates arriving months early build anticipation and give guests a first taste of what's coming. Do gothic wedding invitations have to be black?
No. Deep greens, midnight blues, burgundy, and charcoal all read as gothic when paired with the right illustration and foil. Ours weren't black at all.
