The Meaning of the Cups Tarot | Ten of Cups, Ace of Cups & Two of Cups
The Suit of Cups is the tarot suit of emotion, love, relationships and celebration. Of all the suits in the deck, it is the one that speaks most directly to what a wedding is.
The Ten of Cups is the fulfilment card. The moment when everything you hoped for has arrived. Joy that is complete, love that is shared, a community gathered around two people at their happiest. It is almost universally positive in any reading and in the context of a wedding invitation it carries a meaning that needs no explanation. This is that day.
The Ace of Cups is the beginning. Emotional abundance overflowing, new love, the pure potential of something that has not yet been tested by time. I love the classic image of the overflowing cup and I chose to expand on the wing element in my own illustration, giving it a sense of something being offered openly, generously, without reservation. That felt right for an invitation.
The Two of Cups is the union card. Two people choosing each other, a connection that is equal and reciprocal. It is perhaps the most directly wedding-relevant card in the entire tarot deck and a design we are working toward adding to this collection. Watch this space.
As with all my tarot inspired designs, I bring my own knowledge and intuition to the meaning alongside the classic readings. The cards are a starting point, not a rulebook.
